We only list events that are trying to promote equality (Age - young or old, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion, Sexuality) or Human Rights, but we include in this community events where the objective is to encourage people to value the diversity of their community.

Pill Carnival - Monday August 27

Organisers are promising that this year's carnival in Newport will be the biggest and best yet with thousands of people expected to attend the event, which takes place on Monday August 27.

The parade, including floats and walking entries, leaves the dock gates at 2pm.

It will follow a route up Alexandra Road, into Commercial Road, into Cardiff Road, into Mendalgief Road and finally into Marion Street and then onto the Millennium Field, where there will be entertainment all afternoon. Bucket collectors will be along the route collecting money for two charities and entertainment will include a funfair, climbing wall, children's sports events and a variety of stalls, including SEWREC and the Mentro Allan Project.

Mentro Allan will be bringing along a 6m climbing wall (coutesy of Newport City Council) and organising a series of fun races for parents and children, including egg and spoon, three legged and sack races.

There will be live bands and family entertainment on the main stage until 10pm, followed by a spectacular closing fireworks display.

Now in its 9th year, Cardiff - Wales Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras invites you to its main event on September 1st in Coopers Field, Cardiff. The fun starts around 1pm.

A celebration of the diversity of lesbian and gay life in Wales, our party welcomes all people without judgement or prejudice.

The Mardi Gras team launched it’s 2007 campaign back in March reviving the original idea behind the colours of the rainbow flag designed by Gilbert Baker back in 1978 when he designated each of the six colours a meaning: Red (Life); Orange (Healing); Yellow (Sun); Green (Nature); Blue (Harmony) and Violet (Spirit).

The Russell Commission - Young Peoole's Event - 19th October 2007

‘A national framework for youth action and engagement’ was published by the Russell Commission on Wednesday, 16 March, 2005. For a copy of the report or more information click here.

The Report details the Commission’s recommendations for delivering a step change in youth volunteering in the UK – a step change in diversity, quality and quantity.

In its report, the Russell Commission responds to the clearly expressed desire of young people to find meaningful ways of contributing to their communities. It addresses current inconsistencies and weaknesses in provision, which prevent the full potential of youth volunteering opportunities from being realised, as well as identifying ways to engage more young people from disadvantaged and under-represented communities. Additionally, the Commission proposes measures to significantly improve the range and quality of activities for which young people can choose to volunteer.

The Welsh Assembly Government, Canllaw Online and CWVYS are looking for 60 young people for this one day youth conference on 'Youth Volunteering in Wales' at The Pavilion, Llandrindod Wells on 19th October 2007. There will be a parallel event for support workers who bring young people on the day.

For more information and to register your interest in the event, contact Sharon Hazelwood on 01685 729300 or email: sharon.hazelwood@wales.gsi.gov.uk
